31 Days In

It all started just 31 days ago.

And it began with this image. An image of a bottle of wine sitting on corner on my kitchen island. It was late in the day and the sun was filtering through the frosted glass on the door beside the kitchen. It was striking the label just right so I grabbed my camera and took a shot. It wasn’t too bad but I played with the aperture settings as the camera began to drown out the ambient light in the background leaving only a strip of light highlighting the label.

Game on!

I suppose it was one of those unexpected moments and a whisper in my ear, telling me to pick up my camera again. Sure, I’d been shooting photos here and there. And, I was certainly doing that on my weekly hikes and even backpacking trips. But I hadn’t really tried to craft images like I had done probably some seven years earlier. I had shifted into a new daily routine and kind of put photography in the background. That, was a mistake!

And from here on, birthed the idea of posting one image every day for the next 365 days. And even further to this, it would be about not just picking up the camera and shooting the familiar. It was also about getting out of my comfort zone and trying out some new genres of photography. Nothing was off the table and by putting it out into the public domain, I would hold myself accountable to the masses.

It’s been interesting so far, and fun to see my collection of photos grow as the days tick on. Some are of course better than others…but then, better or good is always a subjective call depending on the viewer.

Here’s hoping the creative juices continue to flow.
